Who Says I Can't Cook?

Pasta 2.jpg

See, I can cook. It's just Chinese food that I struggle with. Above is this evening's dinner -- simple homemade sauce made with fresh tomatoes, garlic and leeks and breaded pork cutlets with homemade breadcrumbs tossed in olive oil, salt and oregano, topped with crumbled aged parmesean.

Admittedly, the cheese, olive oil, and oregano were not acquired here; they were lovingly mailed by my parents from the good ole U.S. of A. I don't have any basil, and I prefer chicken over pork cutlets. But I found making this meal immensely comforting and rewarding. I made the bread crumbs myself, using a serrated knife to shave the end of a baguette I had lovingly saved and frozen from a trip to Wuhan last month. I dipped the cutlets in egg and browned them carefully in my precious olive oil. The garlic and leeks, purchased from local farmers on the way home from work, were shelled and minced. I peeled and cut the tomatoes by hand, and blanched them into boiling water. No cans used here.

I guess this is my idea of home cooking.
