Black Chicken

Black Chicken.JPG

I came across what looked to me like black-skinned chicken on Sunday in my local grocery store. I have never seen this before, nor do I think I have eaten it. Then I read that the Impetuous Epicure attended a recent hotpot in which black chicken was served, though I'm not sure what he ate is the same thing.

Is it a chicken? A duck? Why is the skin black -- is it natural? Does it taste any different? Is it usually more expensive? Anyone know?

Other pictures from the market after the jump.

Hanging on what looked to be garment racks were slabs of air-dried duck.

It's crab season! That's what everyone tells me. I've only eaten one so far. I must confess that I found the amount of work required to extract meat from these little ones to be arduous and dare I say, not all that rewarding?

You can also always buy fish on the street, swimming fresh in their little plastic tubs.

I am going to try to focus more on market photos in the next few weeks... there's just so much to capture here.
