Somewhere on the train home from Hangzhou, I lost my watch, a plain navy blue number I had frantically purchased on my last day in Shanghai. But I was actually secretly pleased at having lost it -- I had already spied its replacement at a local market in Jiujiang.
I love this watch -- it's like wearing my dinner on my wrist! Every time I look at the time, I am reminded of the all-important next meal. It's so appropriate for my time in China, where food is always such a topic of conversation.
As for the fish in China, most of the fish dishes here are indeed served with the specimen still sporting its entire skeleton. That's the way it's done. I previously had limited exposure to fish with bones, but I am getting used to it -- how could I not, when the fish always tastes good? And I must say that I've become increasingly adept at spitting out the little bones.
I love that this food-related design made it into an accessory. When I had lunch at the potter's home last month, his assistant sported a nifty pair of Vans-like sneakers with this same fish skeleton design. I coveted those as well.
