Peanut Cookies for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Peanut Cookies.jpg

I haven't been blogging this much this week because I haven't been eating out much, and my experiments in chopped-vegetable-of-the-day and noodles in my own kitchen are hardly worthy of posting. I've also been eating lots of baozi.

An item that I discovered and worked into my daily intake are these wonderful peanut cookies. The peanuts are unsalted, unsugared and unfried -- they are simply piled on to a thin dough, and baked into crispy rounds. The cookie part is pretty unassuming -- noticeable as sweet, but mostly playing the role of holding the peanuts together.

Because the cookies aren't too sweet or salty, I find I can eat these for any meal. A bag at the local bakery is 5 kuai, or about $.65.

I am pretty sure I've seen these at Chinatown bakeries, but for a bit more money. Try to go to a bakery that does a lot of turnaround -- chances are the cookies are fresher. These babies aren't so tasty if they've been sitting on the shelf -- they should be readily crispy.
